A Season For Helping

Giving Guide 2020.jpeg

Our region needs YOU as it faces the economic and health challenges of 2020.

One in five Pittsburghers struggles to have healthy, adequate food every day – a situation not helped by Pennsylvania’s 8.1% unemployment rate. According to a recent study by The Pittsburgh Foundation, 80% of our non-profits, often the first places people in need turn for help, have seen a decrease in revenue, and 17% of their workforce has been laid off or have had wages reduced. What should be a time of holiday celebrations is instead a time of need for so many of our friends, neighbors and colleagues.

TABLE Magazine’s annual Charitable Giving Guide helps the region’s non-profits spread the word about their work. Their mission to help grows from the uniquely American impulse to give money and time to help our society not just survive, but to thrive. There is no other country in the world whose voluntary generosity comes forth so consistently from a combination of tradition, faith, commitment to community – and the need to show gratitude for the opportunities we’ve been able to turn into personal success.

TABLE has covered some big issues this fall, with articles sponsored by The Pittsburgh Foundation about food security, child care, health care, transportation, and addressing the needs of women and families. This week, we begin a series on the state of the region’s arts and culture sector with the help of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. The need for our non-profit sector to thrive has never been clearer than it is right now, and we hope you will join us in supporting these wonderful organizations this giving season.
