Gifts for Mom

Finding the perfect Mother’s Day gift can be tough, especially for the Mom who has it all. Make her feel special this year with one of these unique, local gift ideas.

Plants

Plants truly are, as cliche as it sounds, a gift that keeps giving.

Though my mother jokes that I am her favorite Mother’s Day gift (my birthday often falls on the holiday), in reality, it’s a bleeding heart plant that my sister and I gifted her as children. Every year, when it blooms, she thinks of us.

Find your Mom the perfect plant – for planting or hanging – at Brenckle’s Greenhouse. The greenhouse has a wide range of perennial varieties; just like my bleeding heart, they’ll show up year after year, each time reminding her of you.

Looking for something pot-able? Visit City Grows. The small, organic shop has a giant selection of houseplants, from succulents to taller-than-you ferns.

Flowers

You can't go wrong with florals. Find massive, gorgeous bouquets at The Farmer’s Daughter on the Northside available for preorder - there’s even cactus cupcake and tea-towel add-ons available to finish off your gift.

The Squirrel Hill Flower Shop is offering brightly-colored arrangements, rose bouquets, garden pots, and more for local and nationwide delivery; surf their website for a bit and you’ll find – even outside of the Mother’s Day selections – there is no end to their floral creativity.

Chocolates

Tabbara Chocolates is combining two traditional gifts this year: flowers and chocolates.

The local chocolatier is crafting spring-ready bouquets out of milk and dark chocolate flowers. Though they won’t sit in a vase, they’ll taste great! Pair the sweet arrangement with their other Mother’s Day offering, a chocolate tablet made with dark chocolate and filled with hazelnut praline.

Canonsburg-based Sarris Candies is offering all kinds of chocolate treats for the holiday. Go simple with the Mother’s Day-branded bar or, go big with the Spring Tier, a tower of sweets just for Mom.

Baked Goods

Get Mom all the breakfast baked goods she loves at Mediterra Café. The shop has put together a bakery basket filled with tea, scones, honey, maple syrup, pancake mix, and more. Take brunch to the next level with their brekkie board, a charcuterie-style breakfast platter loaded with treats.

Cater to Mom’s dessert side at French bakery La Gourmandine, who has released a Mother’s Day, in-store special: strawberry bavarois with spiced rhubarb heart on sponge cake. If this sweet treat doesn’t wow her in looks, it will in taste.
