What’s a party without a charcuterie board? A great charcuterie board sets the tone for a fabulous feast and can satisfy most palates — there is something for everyone! While “charcuterie” is the French word that refers just to the cured meats, most boards feature small servings of bread, spreads, meats, cheeses, and snackable fruits and veggies, arranged as an attractive, sharable platter. DeLallo, an Italian specialty food store outside of Pittsburgh that distributes charcuterie items and special imported Italian and Mediterranean foods all over the country, is our go-to when creating the perfect charcuterie board. Here are a few tips on which ingredients to choose and how to properly style a board that will surely impress your guests.

Designing a Charcuterie Board, DeLallo-Style

1. Find the right boards to build your platters.  Large cutting boards, marble slabs, slate boards, or ceramic platters are great options.

2. Vary the colors, textures, and sizes.

3. Include a variety of meats and cheeses, olives and antipasti, spreads and jams, fresh and dried fruits, toasts and bread, and various nuts.

4. Add fresh herbs for the finishing touches.

5. Consider adding bowls and jars to add height to the board.

6. Use fresh fruits and bright herbs for color.
