“For me it is having faith in yourself, knowing what your limits are, and being okay with what you can and cannot do. “ Heather K., program participant
The Woodlands, works hard to generate possibilities, inspiration, and a sense of community. Heather’s sentiment demonstrates the impact Woodlands’ staff hopes to impart to every participant. And that impact extends beyond those who participate in its programs. The Woodlands becomes, for many of families, a safe haven for their loved ones, a place they can feel confident that their son or daughter are receiving the highest quality programming, the utmost care, and a positive experience.
Since 1998, The Woodlands has been enriching the lives of children and adults with disabilities and chronic illness by providing a barrier-free environment, innovative programs and activities, and an impassioned, nurturing staff. With a 52-acre campus complete with a nature trail, fully accessible Aquatics, Wellness and Fitness Center, an adaptive par-3 golf course, a sports court, and plenty of outdoor space, The Woodlands offers the ideal environment to explore physical activity and community and social integration.
When you visit The Woodlands during a summer camp or weekend retreat, you can’t help but notice the energy, joy, and zest for life the children and adults who participate on our programs have. Participants attend art classes, learn to play an instrument, swim, play golf and, most importantly, form friendships.
At The Woodlands, we celebrate differences, encourage ability and challenge our participants to learn and grow in a supportive, fully accessible environment. Our facilities encourage everyone, of every ability and disability, to safely explore what’s possible and discover new levels of independence. Hands-on experiences guided by our caring staff help to reinforce social, cultural, environmental, and recreational growth. Participation is encouraged at every level and celebrated in a welcoming and approachable setting.
Through the generous support of our donors, The Woodlands has been able to accomplish all this and more while also working towards our goals of addressing unmet needs for programming, partnering with organizations that can help us further our mission, and ensuring that every individual interested in participating in a program at The Woodlands can do so.
With the holiday season fast approaching, I hope you can consider a gift to The Woodlands. With your contribution, we can continue to focus on our mission to enrich the lives of those we serve.
