It began in his kitchen.  For years, Master Distiller and Pennsylvania Pure Distilleries co-founder Barry Young had been playing around with ways to make specialty cocktails for his friends and family. “That’s where the idea for our ready to drink cocktails originated — I wanted to find a way to batch delicious craft cocktails in advance so that I could enjoy my own parties,” said Young.

Feeling like they couldn’t replicate his creations, soon Barry’s friends started asking him to bring them to parties and gatherings. And so was born the family of ready to drink cocktails, all handmade — batch by batch — with his award-winning vodka. Like the cocktails that Barry made in his kitchen, every cocktail is crafted with real ingredients: a house-made infusion of lavender florets, freshly steeped Earl Grey and Chai teas, and natural ginger. 

“Creating a collection of perfectly balanced, truly superior craft cocktails is hard.  Batching those recipes — even harder. We succeeded with this line, and we did it without sacrificing quality, authenticity or taste.”

Traditional recipes with a colorful twist

Barry has always had a passion for classic cocktails and the idea of enhancing the original versions with modern flavor profiles.  A spin on the famed Cape Cod, the Pomegranate Codder, went from being simply a family favorite, to one of the most popular cocktails in the ready to drink line. The Chai Tea Mule is hands down a staff favorite, and takes the mule — traditionally vodka, ginger and lime — to a whole new level with the addition of Chai tea and Allspice.

Over the last few months many of us have picked up new hobbies to channel our creative energy. Why not try your own hand at one of our favorite holiday perfect cocktails, the Boyd & Pear.

THE BOYD & PEAR

Ingredients:

1.5 oz Boyd & Blair Potato Vodka
.75 oz Pear Five-Spice Syrup*
.75 oz Lemon Juice

Add one scoop of ice to shaker. Measure and add lemon juice, pear five-spice syrup, and Boyd & Blair Potato Vodka. Cover with cheater tin, and shake. Double strain into a glass. Garnish with a Cinnamon Stick.

Pear Five Spice Syrup:

1 cup of Water
1 Cup of Sugar
1/2 Pear
1 tsp. White Peppercorns
1 tsp. Whole Cloves
1 tsp. Fennel
1 Tbsp. Star Anise
2 Cinnamon Sticks

Boil all of the ingredients together for 10-15 minutes. Let mixture cool, then strain into a container. This will keep for two weeks in the refrigerator.
