Zest for Bubbles

Spirits are high for the liveliest drinks on the market

Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles. From carbonated coffee, to the sparkling water craze, to spiked seltzers, and a renewed love for Champagne, effervescence is everywhere. From La Croix (pass me the Pamplemousse!), to Yes Way Rosé with Bubbles, companies are continuing to launch bubbles brands faster than you can say “Bubly,” or “Bublé,” like Michael Bublé does in the commercial for PepsiCo’s unveil of its new, all-natural sparkling waters. And if we’re talking Champagne, there’s no question the once “posh and pretentious” libation is no longer just an upmarket celebratory drink — a glass of bubbly is fitting for any and every occasion.

The Espressoda — The Espressoda — a bold iced coffee, made with carbonated water instead of plain water, a drizzle of vanilla for sweetness, and no milk or cream. Easily made at home, this low-calorie, dairy-free concoction combines your love of coffee and La Croix. When combined, the carbonation of the water and the actual CO2 in the espresso reacts, making a lot of foam, resulting in a beautiful crema to top it off.

Ingredients:

  • 8 oz. club soda or sparkling water

  • 1 oz. vanilla syrup

  • 1 oz. illy espresso

Directions:

1. Fill a standard 10-ounce, clear latte glass to the top with fresh ice.

2. Add club soda or sparkling water, leaving a bit of room on top for the shot of espresso.

3. Add vanilla syrup and stir.

4. Prepare illy espresso and at the end pour the shot over the soda.

Calling All Millennials

The sparkling water craze features fruity infusions and tummy-soothing carbonation that first gained mainstream popularity as a healthy alternative to sugar-laden soda. What we’re currently into? Recess sparkling water infused with hemp extract, adaptogens, American ginseng, L-theanine, and schisandra. Flavors like pom hibiscus come in a pretty millennial pink can with the tag line “calm cool collected.” “An antidote to modern times.” Genius. takearecess.com
