Under the Sea

Another trip around the sun calls for an aquatic celebration! Channel your inner mermaid with these magical details.

The guest of honor’s mom had the idea of doing a mermaid-inspired bash and enlisted Alexis Allen of Shayla Hawkins Events (shaylahawkinsevents.com) to plan the pool party. “I did exhaustive research — not just of mermaid parties, but I learned more about mermaids, colors, the ocean in general, and textures and patterns.” The idea came to (sea) life with the help of a team of local vendors. When coming up with your party priorities, choose what’s most important to you. “Most often, clients care about food,” says Allen. As much as the host wants beautiful centerpieces, no one wants a guest to go hungry. “In a perfect world, you’re going to be able to have all of these things. But, you have to put emphasis and focus on some core elements, and make those the key components based on your budget.”
